what types of Archery are there?

Target Archery: The shooting of arrows a circular paper targets either indoors or outdoors. There are a variety of rounds. The A.T.A.A. sponsors a Provincial Indoor Target Championship and a Provincial Outdoor Target Championship each year.

Field Archery: The shooting of arrows at circular paper targets which are placed at varying distances on a field course. The course is usually designed to follow paths through the woods. The natural lay of the land adds challenge when the archer must shoot up or down hills. One day of the A.T.A.A. Outdoor Provincial Championship is a field round.

3D Archery: The shooting of arrows at paper, burlap, or 3D animal targets either indoors or outdoors. This discipline is rapidly becoming the most popular form of the sport. The A.T.A.A. sponsors the Indoor 3D provincial championship.

Ski-Arc: The combination of cross-country skiing and archery. This event is similar to biathlon. The archer must ski a course, stop after one circuit, and shoot his/her four arrows at designated targets. This aspect of the sport is quickly gaining in popularity.

Bow Hunting: The shooting of arrows at small or big game animals and fish with the required licenses from Alberta Fish and Wildlife. More archers participate in bow hunting than in any other form of archery. Management of wildlife populations and the challenge of the hunt make this a popular sport.

Kyudo: "Literally meaning "way of the bow", is the Japanese art of archery. It is a modern Japanese martial art (gendai budo-).It is estimated that there are approximately half a million practitioners of kyu-do- today. Kyu-do- is a rare sport in the sense that it is not dependent on age or sex. If the practitioner is dedicated, male or female, they can learn at any age. It's never too early or too late to learn Kyu-do-. Although one could learn Kyu-do- at any point in their life, it can take a lifetime to perfect."
