Updated Information Regarding ABAA Motion

Attention all ATAA members:

In consultation with the Alberta Government liaison for the Alberta Bowhunter and Archers Association, and regarding the motion as previously put forth (20/02/2012) by the ABAA Executive for vote by the membership at the forth coming Annual General Meetings of both the Alberta Target Archers Association and the Alberta Bowhunters Association: it has been encouraged that two additions be included to sufficiently address Governance and legality requirements.

Addition one: A single sentence added to the original motion at the end which states that The ABA understands and acknowledges that withdrawal from the ABAA precludes the ABA  from any funding from the Alberta Sports Recreation Parks and Wildlife Foundation as the Provincial Sport Organization for Archery in Alberta.”  Though we believe the understanding is reflected in the guidelines of the ABAA Constitution, the government wishes clarity on the matter within the body of the motion.

Addition two: If the first motion is accepted by the membership the ABAA (ATAA and ABA members), the ABAA’s Constitution will in essence become invalid due to the arbitrary withdrawal of 4 of 8 of the members of the Board of Directors (ABA members). To rectify the situation a second motion is required for vote by all ABAA members stating “The membership of the Alberta Bowhunters and Archers Association approves the dissolution of the Alberta Bowhunters and Archers Association as the Provincial Sport Organization of Archery in Alberta and approves the Alberta Target Archers Association as the Provincial Sport Organization governing the sport of archery in Alberta, and the recognized Provincial Sport Organization by the Alberta Sports Recreation Parks and Wildlife Foundation.”  With this motion, properly the name change as spoken to in the first motion will be addressed while expediting recognition of the ATAA as the PSO and in turn not jeopardizing funding for our active youth and coaching programs and our youths participation in such provincially sanctioned multisport events such as the Alberta Winter Games and Canada Winter Games. This motion will also allow normal continuation of each organizations current activities until each can amend their Constitutions to reflect the removal of the ABAA responsibilities.

In summary we again encourage any members with questions regarding the two proposed motions to contact either of the ATAA or ABA Presidents in advance of the perspective Annual General Meetings. A reminder again for members of the ATAA your opportunity to vote is at the ATAA’s AGM at 7:00pm on March 24, 2012 in Calgary at the Calgary Archery Center. For members of the ABA your opportunity to vote will be at the ABA’s AGM on March 31, 2012 in Calgary.
